English actor, known for being in TV show Are you Being Served and 'Last of the Summer Wine'. In his younger years he had his height listed as
6 feet in the Spotlight Casting directory.
My face just suits that type. I just fall into the smell-up-the-nose parts.
I'm six feet two, have a long nose and my eyes stand out.

Rob, what are your thoughts on Trevor Bannister?
Bannister was around 5’11” I would say. A case could be made for 6’0.5” at most for Thornton from the photo in the previous post. Thornton always had superior posture to Bannister.
Editor Rob
At most 5ft 11

Rob, maybe 6ft0¾?

Guy to the right Trevor Bannister is listed 5ft11½, not sure how legit that is though

Rob, could Thornton maybe have 6'0.25"?
6'2" Nicholas Smith had a good two inches on Thornton on Are You Being Served? Now, it is quite possible Thornton had already lost a touch by then, but it couldn't have been much, he was barely over 50 and often practiced superb posture. Thornton was barely over 5'10" by his tenure on Last of the Summer Wine, 6'0" Keith Clifford had over an inch on him.

Question is whether by early 50's he had lost some height. It's correct he looked about 6ft on Are You Being Served especially with Nicholas who had at least 2 inches on him... so maybe 6ft 1/2 is fair until I see him early in career again.

Looked over 6ft in Are You Being Served?
Editor Rob
At times he could.

Rob, did you upgrade this guy from 6ft?
That 6ft2 claim is an interesting find. More a shoe height though
Editor Rob
Stumbled over that quote months ago and had a look at him a few times, I think if he stood tall in his prime he'd clear 6ft, by 50's I think he'd lost height though.

6-0.5 imo. Tallist looking guy.

Well, would you believe it? Frank Thornton just popped up in 'The Chase'! The question was 'What did Frank Thornton play in 'Are You Being Served?' The answer, of course, was Captain Peacock and the contestant, a young one, got it right!
😁👍

I know what it feels like to have humour go over your head as a kid, Rob! At the beginning of the 'Are You Being Served?' series, my Mum was able to understand better than I could. At the end, she was asking me!

I was but an innocent young lad, all the Mrs Slocombe's Cat innuendo was lost on me 🙀😺

Frank Thornton was known as the tall 'Captain Peacock' in 'Are You Being Served' and its sequel 'Grace and Favour', not to mention 'Last of the Summer Wine' and a spattering of film roles, ranging from 'Carry On' films to such classics as 'Spanish Fly'.
I'm surprised he doesn't have any comments yet, so here's his first, together with a guess for 6ft.
RIP Frank Thornton (1921-2013)

You know as a youngster a lot of jokes flew over my head. A lot of 70's shows were well written and Frank always seemed to give off a tall prescence in that show.
