I felt very small. And I was. At the age of 19 I weighed only 120 lbs and was just 5-feet-2.
Naturally, I resented being so short. So after I went into the Army during World War II, the fact that I was away from home and lived a strictly regulated life, with lots of exercise, had its effect. I began to grow.
So by the time I left the service in 1948, my height was 5-foot-9 and a half and now I weigh 160 pounds

He managed to grow almost 8 inches after the age of 19. That is pretty surprising. Guy’s a perfect example of unprecedented growth spurts. Rob, do you think he suffered from delayed puberty??

Maybe he had delayed or catch-up growth, and the exercise and routine, army meals etc gave his body the right combination to reach it's potential.
