German filmmaker, known for directing Nosferatu, Faust, Tabu, Sunrise and The Last Laugh. In a 1928 Theatre Magazine it described him as
"six feet, four inches in height". In a 1983 book it described him as being of gigantic height:
"Murnau was almost seven feet tall".

Rob, have you considered a page for Max Schreck, who portrayed Count Orlok in Murnau’s Nosferatu? His height is a frequent subject of discussion and I’m sure there’d be some interesting points made here.

Since when has 6'4 been "almost seven ft" LOL.

Gives off a similar height impression as Tim Robbins

Real height is 6' 4" and billed height is 6' 10½"

6ft4 in the 20's was considered a truly mountainous height

William Dieterle was supposed to have been 6 ft 5.

Google lists him as 6'11...

Thanks for adding Murnau, Editor Rob. I was surprised to see that he was listed 6`9 or 6`10!! In the few pictures of him next to other people he looks very tall but not over two meters

Sunrise is one of the best films ever made. An absolute masterpiece

I've heard reports of him being 6'9." I didn't believe that claim. After seeing pictures of him with other actors of that period, 6'4" to 6"5" seems more accurate. Also, actors around 75 to 95 years ago we're about 1.25" inches shorter on average to today's actors. Good nutrition plays a part in growth growing up, and the standards back then were not like they are today.

Also would you add Sunrise to his credits?
He was a true cinematic master. Nobody, including Terence Malick, could match him in terms of making stories into pure lyrical visual-poetry.

Yes, thanks for adding! Worth noting that he was credited with "nearly seven feet" as his height at some points. However what pictures exist of him standing with others show that while he was exceptionally tall, he was not a full-fledged giant as a true near seven footer would have been in the 1920s.

yeah I'll make mention of that nearly 7ft...seems bizarre when looking at photos of him in that era, where the average of course is smaller than today.
