My favorite actress, looking at the picture when She's beside Dakota, the top of Dakota skull who measures 163 cms is exactly the same height of Elle's eyebrows, at this level to the top of the Skull taking into consideration the type of skull as dolichocephalic, there a range between 11 and 11,5 cm.. So...The height of Elle must be 174 to 174.5 cm at least, greetings Rob!!!, I'm from Paraguay.

Shes at least tad bit taller than other female models with my height range at least. Ues, she is much taller than her sister Dakota Fanning with 5ft 4 range... She is indeed standing around her younger sister's eye level. Cheat genes between sibling and sibling from same parents like Hemsworth, Thompson (Emma and Sophie), Franco Nrothers etc... Cool fact is that she DOES share same Birthdate April 9 with Twilight star Kristen Jaymes Stewart who turned 30 just few days before my 31st Birthday, Jay Baruchel from Sorcerers Apprentice, Jesse McCartney and Dennis Quaid etc... Hey Rob, so I actually met her a few weeks ago (first celebrity I've ever met) here in Toronto, she was with her boyfriend Max Minghella (had no idea who he was at the time) who apparently is here to shoot the new Saw movie. I got a photo with her, it's not great for judging height as we were stood on the grass at a food truck festival (I can send you a photo if you'd like Rob), but I would estimate her as anywhere between 5'8 and 5'8.5. Anything above that I would probably be sceptical of, not a 5'9er IMO.

@ Skinny_kid - I wouldn't dismiss 5ft9 for Elle for her morning height. It's a real contrast to elder sister Dakota's 5ft4! I've watched both of these girls grow up, and I think Dakota started her career a little earlier than her little sister, starring as a little genius child with a quick tongue in a film with Charlize Theron and Kevin Bacon called 'Trapped', in which she was kidnapped.

Did you see Dakota in the Francis Ford Coppola film 'Twixt', from 2011? It's a beautifully-shot film starring Val Kilmer, and Elle plays a ghostly child, or rather, the ghost of a child. She is showing signs of being a tall girl 'in the making' in that film already. She stars with other children, and is the tallest of them, if my memory is correct. It's well worth checking out.

Besides, Elle is 5'9" at best in her barefeet, as she claims herself. There is absolutetly no picture-indication which seems to suggest that she grew anything substantial past age 16.

You can clearly see both of their heels (I assume Elle's are bigger ,because she's standing on the platformed heels, while Nicole wears casual pair of them) and Elle still looks noticeably shorter than her. if Nicole is 179, there is no way that Elle's only 5 cms shorter than her, at least according to these pictures). @ Rob - A copy of 'Twixt' made its way through my door today, courtesy of Amazon! I really do think it is worth adding to Elle's list of credits, as is 'The Door in the Floor'. In the latter film, she was only a tiny kid, so you won't be able to take in her eventual height from it, but 'Twixt' does offer us a peak into the fact that she is in the throws of blossoming into the model-girl height she is today!

You can see in the Francis Ford Coppola movie 'Twixt', that Elle, at 12 or 13, was already showing maturity and sophistication WELL beyond her years.
I don't think the makers of 'The Neon Demon' had to look far when it came to choosing their leading lady.
Elle also stars as the tiny daughter of Jeff Bridges and Kim Basinger in the film 'the Door in the Floor'. I have just started watching it and I felt the need to pause it to write this! The child is 5 or 6 for real and starring with the cream of Hollywood already! I'm impressed! She is just like her sister! I didn't think there could ever possibly be another Dakota Fanning, but there is - her baby sister!

Elle didn't look very tall in the Ladies' room next to the other girls in 'The Neon Demon'! Then I noticed she wasn't wearing heels and the other girls, the jealous, bitchy girls, were!
What a stomach-churning story;
I was expecting to be shocked and it didn't let me down! If that's a reflection on certain modelling agencies, then I hope young girls will be careful where they go to and check out the credentials and reputations of them first! Unfortunately, Elle's character in this film seemed to have grown up in a cold, uncaring family, leaving the poor girl extra susceptible to any offers of affection.
I would have liked the film a whole lot more if the 'make-up artiste' had been genuine to her. I was hoping she would be. I like a bit of humanitarianism in a movie. This was just plain sad and disturbing, the evilness of extreme jealousy and resentment pervading and corrupting.
I did know that the film was controversial though!
Elle is indeed tall, though not for a model really! In the washroom, with the other girls at the beginning of the film, she could have passed for 5ft7, but later I realised she was nearer the 5ft8.5 written here, so that's going to be my estimate for her.

@Laura- Elle hasn't been 5' 6" since fall 2010 when she was 12 (her growth spurt was 4' 11" to 5' 6"). I don't know if she's quite 5' 9" but 2-3 years ago she was 5' 8" so she could have grown a little since then. She is significantly taller than her sister Dakota, and if she were 5' 6" or 5' 7" she would only look slightly taller.

@div Nobody is saying that Elle was 5'7.75" for the past years and then suddently starting growing. That value is based on the last direct quote we got from Elle about her height, from when she was still 14 years old. Last year she has been described frequently by the media as being 5'8", but without having quoted her directly. So I think it's absolutely plausible to believe that she maybe grew another quarter or half inch to at least make it to a full 5'8".
As for the 5'8.5" quote, it was done by the writer of one of her next movies. She was talking in the context of casting a love interest for Elle who is much taller than she is. So there was no reason for her to talking her height up. However, it's of course possible that she misquoted Elle because she maybe didn't remembered it correctly.

The average growth for girls from 13 to 18 is actually 2.5" according to height charts: the average (50th percentile) 13-year-old is just under 5' 2" and the average 18-year-old is just over 5' 4". I don't think Elle's grown since 2013, which is normal considering she got a big growth spurt in 2010 (seven inches). A lot of girls don't grow anymore at all after having such a large growth spurt, but Elle was only 11-12 so I think that's why she gained two more inches after that.

5-11 at this point. My best friend used to go to her school and they keep in touch. I met her at my friends house pool party and she looked super tall. I mean part of it was some sandles with wedges she had on that made her look almost exactly the same height as my 6-0 friend. She was also surrounded by 5-4 girls trying to be friends with her. The brief moment I talked to her was in the pool. As a 5-6 guy I'm used to being around taller girls, so I'm not self conscious typically. Maybe it was partially because she was famous, but she was enough taller that when I stood next to her I started to blush and climbed up onto my top toes. She was still maybe 2 inches taller then me. She was also just striking. Her body was gorgeous and she was just glowing.

@Polisargher I disagree with this chart. Elle has stated in many interviews that she had a very intense growth spurt, where she grew 7 inches in just 1 year and a half. Which was basically the period between shooting "Somewhere" and "Super 8". So I think that this chart is more accurate, where the age refers to the respective period of her birthday on April 9.

@Stephanie In the case of comparing Elle with Hailee, I think that it is actually Hailee who needs a little downgrade. After comparing her with other people, I am starting to get more convinced that Hailee is slightly shorter than 5'7".

Of course there are some girls who continue growing until their early twenties. But those are really just a small percentage. The fact that you were "a late bloomer in everything" pretty much explains why you were one of those rare cases. But the majority of girls stops growing around age 15/16.
One thing that we can say about Elle is that she is definitely not a late bloomer. She grew 7 inches in 2 years while she was 11/12. That was 3 years ago! The normal pattern for a girl of that age is that her growth slows down year after year in her teens. Which seems to be exactly Elle's case. If Elle is still growing, then I think that it is just a matter of a few millimeters and not much more. She had her massive growth spurt very early at age 11/12 and normally this also means that you stop growing sooner. But I think that we can assume that she is a full 5'8" at this point.

So to say that there is a bigger height difference between Elle and Dakota than between Elle and her mum is ridiculous. Elle is much taller than Dakota, but just a little shorter than her mother.

The only huge height gap is the one between Elle and Dakota. As you can see in this picture, where Dakota's heels were 1cm higher than Elle's: Click Here

In this mexican-interview from June this year Elle is quoted as saying "mido 1.75" (I measure 1.75): Click Here . But I think that it is much more likely that she told them that she is 5'8" and that they then inaccurately converted it into the metrical system.
Also, around the same time in May/June Elle was filming "Low Down". In this movie she apparently had a stunt double, who is listed in her bio at 5'7.5" and in her resume at 5'8". So this pretty much would confirm that at time Elle was probably still around 5'7.75".

@Stephanie Elle's mom has a long neck as well. So I don't think that the neck makes a lot of a difference. As you can see in this picture from July: Click Here
So I really think that the main reason why they sometimes appear to have the same height has to do with posture. Elle is much younger, so it is natural that she has a better posture than her mom. I also noticed that Elle has many times the happit of looking up when she is walking or talking to people. In this interview she even admitted herself that she likes to stand up straight and being confident about her height: Click Here

@Pedro I agree that Elle's mom is still slightly taller than she is (take 1/2" was for Elle, not Joy). Elle has a long neck so I don't know if matching shoulders is a good indication, but some of the other photos in the set show Joy as being slightly taller than Elle. And they had similar footwear. If Joy is 5' 9" then Elle has got to be between 5' 8" and 5' 8.5". She did grow since the beginning of this year, but not a lot (she's 15 1/2 now so she's getting to the end of her growth).

@liz All the heights on this site are barefoot heights, not heights with heels on. Elle was 4' 11"-5' 0" in late 2009, 5' 6" in late 2010, 5' 6.5"-5' 7" in late 2011, and 5' 7.75" as of early 2013. Dakota was 5' 3.5" in late 2009, and as of late 2010 she is 5' 4" and done growing. Elle is definitely quite a bit taller that Dakota. So is their mother, Joy, and Elle has just about caught up to their mother. And these are from pics of them walking around in regular shoes, not in heels to events. In heels Elle would be around 5' 10". Elle hasn't been 5' 5" since approx. May 2010 (more than three years ago)!

Here is a very recent picture of Elle standing next to Dakota from PFW: Click Here . Dakota was wearing these shoes Click Here , while Elle was wearing these Click Here who look very similar to these Click Here . So if I am not mistaken, Dakota must have had around 1 cm foot advantage over Elle.
Anyone who thinks that Elle might have grown since the beginning of the year?

@Stephanie If you just compare their shoulders you can see that her mum is still slightly taller than Elle. They look like having the same height in some pictures because her mum has usually a more relaxed posture while walking. I think that in this picture from the same day you can get a better perspective of the fact that Elle has still a smaller body: Click Here .
But I agree that it is very likely that Elle grew a little more since the beginning of the year. I think that she is maybe a solid 5'8" now.

@Lizzie Elle is the same height as her mom now, maybe take 1/2". Just look at some recent pictures of them together from September 28, 2013: Click Here Her mom is 5' 9" based on pics of her next to people with known heights (Dakota 5' 4" Steve 6' 3"). By the way, I think that Elle's picture should be replaced. She was only 12 years old and around 5'6" at that time. But she is clearly much taller now.

@Jamie I am not an expert on women's shoes, but I don't really think that Elle had a 2" advantage over Dakota on those pictures. Elle was wearing these shoes Click Here , while Dakota was wearing these Click Here . So Elle's heels were only 1/2" higher than Dakota's. It's true that Elle's shoes also had platforms that were 1 3/4" high. But I don't think they influence the overall height as much as heels. From what I understood their main porpuse is more about comfort, making Elle feel like she was wearing 3/4" heels.
But I admit my general ignorance about the subject. This are only some impressions that I got after reading about it on the Internet. Maybe Rob can tell us how much foot advantage Elle really had over Dakota on those pictures?
