@Animus: maybe in the 80s but there are a lot in the 90s where I’m skeptical. Ray fell into that timeframe. Tony Gonzales was drafted in 1997. He measured 6’4 1/8 and Christian mentioned that his friend met him and he didn’t quite look 6’4”. If it’s the friend I’m thinking of that he’s referring to, he made good estimates previously (spot on). Christian estimated around 6’3.75” at a low. Then Marcellus Wiley. He was listed 6’4 his whole career and measured 6’4.75”. There were others too. Rob also posted an article on one page of a player who detailed what time of the day (around 1 hour out of bed maybe 2 in some cases) and it was someone drafted around then I think. But I can believe Dan Marino’s measurement for example 6’3.25”. Then again I can almost believe Peyton Manning’s being a low (no less than 6-5 flat or 196) and JJ Watt being near 6’5.25 or 6’5 3/8

@Canson

I think Lewis' combine listing is his 'real height', at worst he is 6'0¼. So, in my view, he's basically a weak 184cm.

The measurements back in the day seemed to have been closer to an 'afternoon height', which is the height we are most of the day. Sharpe and Sanders were both measured around their listed height on this site. If anything both Sharpe and Sanders can actually seem taller than 6'1¼ and 5'11½, respectively (I do think those figures are accurate, though).

@Animus: Ray is tricky. Worst case maybe 6’0 or 6’0 1/8 best case 6’0 3/8 since that’s what he measured at the Combine. Just not sure what time of the day it was held back then

Ray Lewis’ height is a little tricky to guess. He can look two inches shorter than Shannon Sharpe and then also as tall as Steve Harvey with both of them in socks. Since the latter seem like a more reliable gauge, I’d say he’s 183-184cm, probably closer to the latter figure. His combine listing is probably pretty accurate, which does happen — not all guys are measured early in the morning.

Doesn't look taller than 5-11

@Christian: my thinking is that the combine may not have taken place as early back then or that he’s a solid 6’0”.Looking at him next to guys like Flacco he would probably be close to 6” shorter and about 3” shorter than Terrell Suggs
Christian 6'5 3/8" said on 6/Dec/18
@Canson

Do you think Lewis is 5'11 7/8" before bed? (since he measured 6'0 3/8" at the combine) I wouldn't put him that low, although it's not impossible.
Canson said on 4/Dec/18
@Viper: not sure if players that far back were measured at morning heights. But prob not a low either. Maybe 5’11.25 peak and 5’11 today. Ray Lewis is prob an inch taller or so today

I've seen an NFL draft measurement of 5'11¾ inches for Prime, so to infer that he's 5'11½ in the afternoon is quite reasonable.

I seen Deion before up close he was 5'11.5 when I seen him in 2012 might be 5'11.25 now idk but this is spot on

He was measured 5'11 1/2 is the morning Chop, so you're wrong.

And he really doesnt look taller than 5'11
viper said on 4/Mar/18
Andre Rison is 5-10 and was listed at 6-1. The NFL somtimes can inflate like the rest
Chop said on 4/Mar/18
I think you’re off with this one, I don’t see Deoin dipping below 6’ except maybe right before bed.
Koushiro said on 3/Mar/18
If he's 5'11 and change, how in the world did he get a 6'1 listing? Usually the NFL would round up 1, but not 2 like the NBA.
Canson said on 2/Mar/18
Agree with RP but still would be around 5’11.5 or maybe slightly under at a low. Only about an inch shorter than Ray Lewis who is 6’ and change at a low
Realist said on 2/Mar/18
I guessed him at 5'11.5 I seen Deion and my 17 year old brother was his height. I was 5'8 now 5'9.5
RP said on 2/Mar/18
Viper, 71.8" is 5'11-3/4" ...almost 5'11-7/8"...probably a morning height measurement.
viper said on 1/Mar/18
I don't see a 5-11 3/4 in the newspaper archive
Paul NS (6ft0.5) said on 1/Mar/18
Yeah, 10 sounds like a reasonable amount. Now I gotta hope Tebow makes the majors...

Measured barefoot @ 5'11-3/4" @ The NFL Combine.
Canson said on 28/Feb/18
5’11 and change. Maybe an inch or so shorter than Ray Lewis is. Could be 180-181 or 181-182

Rob, how many MLB players would you need for a baseball tag? You have Babe Ruth, Randy Johnson, Jose Altuve, Marcus Stroman, Aaron Judge, and now Deion Sanders.
Editor Rob
Probably would need at least 10 or so.

Colleges are usually the worst with height listings. Surprised florida state got it right with Prime Time.
Foxtrot1 said on 28/Feb/18
The cited evidence from what looks like a Falcons program seems to be using data from the combine, which marked him at 71.8 inches. Seems like the kind of guy who would round up.

It's his 4.29 second 40-yard dash that most people talk about. Click Here

Rob, if hes 5'11 half, that would mean steve young is close to 6 foot?
Editor Rob
Not yet looked at Steve, but I have his quote and yes...he's worth a page to get out his proper height too!
