It's over ten months later and I know I've seen him before, but today I've noticed that Chris Smalling is the tallest Chris on the whole website! He wouldn't have this honour if he called himself Christopher, so his shorter name has had BIG consequences for him!
Six foot four. 😆👍

Chris SMALLING?
What a funny, funny name for a guy who measures in at six foot four! 😂😂😂

Ouch, my sister had a bunion operation this fall and it looked in photos like a war wound! It helped her a lot though, hopefully it had the same effect on you. You and I won't be swapping shoes any time soon though, I take a size 14!

@ Jakob - Well, I have yet to hear of a better and more positive way of keeping pain at bay - that of keeping yourself as physically active as possible and making sure your weight is perfect for you. Exercise in itself is a proven natural painkiller, and it comes as no surprise that when you're less able to be on the go in the cold winter months, your pain becomes more irksome.
I can see what you mean about having a risky operation and having to rest afterwards when you simply don't want to! Just short of 20 years ago, I had my bunions removed - something I inherited from my mother! It was simply too frustrating for words to loaf about with my feet in plaster for around 8 weeks, but it was something I had to do. Mind you, I couldn't get over how tiny my feet looked afterwards - size 3 and- a-half, which they remain to this day! They were in such a state beforehand that I couldn't find any decent footwear - and I was addicted to walking around 6-8 miles per day and often far more. I miss all that now that I have had my hip replacement, but at least I regained some of my lost height!
Keep up the good work with your fitness routine. Feeling healthy and fit really is the best buzz in the World!
Great to chat to you Jakob and I wish you, your family and your friends a very 🔔Happy New Year🔔🕛!

Thanks, Sandy, a belated merry Christmas to you as well. Yes, I've spoken to my doctor many times, the only real thing to completely fix my knee would be surgery, but with my particular pateller dislocation damage it wasn't said to always be successful and my growth plates were not closed also so it not advised at the time and as a young farm boy I didn't fancy being off my feet for months. If I am disciplined with physical therapy and things like lots of cycling I can keep the pain at bay but sometimes in the more sedentary months in the winter it can act up painfully. I try to keep my weight trim too, it's easier on the knees. Interesting about your running injuries, my brother also runs long distance at school. As to my dad's height loss, he was a decent 6ft 2 guy most of his life, if he busts a gut now he can reach 6ft 1 but he doesn't really look taller than my brother who is six foot and a half. I'm still in my 20s but I know I'll lose some someday, especially with my long torso and history of lifting heavy loads. Thanks for talking and have a lovely new year Sandy :)

@ Jakob - I would have a word with my doctor if I were you to see if anything further can be done to help you.

@ Jakob - Well, height-loss is part of life, and your Dad will surely still be well over 6ft, but I do understand his being hacked off at losing a bit!
When I started losing height, I thought it was down to my compulsion for keeping my weight as low as possible ever since I was three, but height-loss that quick will all too often have an underlying reason, so if anyone suffers from it at ANY age, get yourself checked out.
What an awful injury to suffer in your teens, and I'm not surprised you still get pain from it today. I did long-distance running in my teens, and pulled a calf muscle, and I still get repercussions to this day. It's surprising really, as I would have thought that a young teenage body would be best equipped at that age with any sports-related injury. Professional sportspeople, of course, receive far superior treatment, but I have never had any complaints about the hospital treatment I received for my hip. The staff, the doctors and my fellow patients all turned the experience into a good one. Pain isn't the end of the World, especially when you know that the outcome will be good and worthwhile.
Great to chat with you Jakob, and have a joyful Christmas break! 😁👍🎄🎅

Sorry to hear about your painful condition. I had an open dislocation of my knee playing football as a teenager, it made me unable to even bend my leg for 3 months, it healed but 12 years later it troubles me when I'm on my feet all day. Still a hip surgery sounds much worse. My family also had a measuring session since my nephews were all seeing how tall they were (or rather how short they still are), my father was irritated that he no longer measures the 6ft 2 he once did, at 67 I guess that happens.
Sandy Cowell said on 19/Dec/18
@ Jakob - Earlier this year, I measured 5ft just before a hip replacement operation, which was simply excruciating. There was a 4cm+ discrepancy between each leg and walking was agony; you could even hear my bones moving in my hip! In November, when I went to see my Dad, he measured me in at 5ft1.75, and I was very pleased! My peak height was 5ft2.5.

If you don't mind me asking, @Sandy Cowell, how tall are you?
Sandy Cowell said on 18/Dec/18
⭐️ Hmmm...
That reminds me of the lyrics from an Alice Cooper song called 'No More Mr Nice Guy'. (I went to church ingognito').
Funny thing for the son of a preacher man to write, but that's Alice all over!

Yes, I imagine when you're well in access of 6ft, it is extremely difficult to go incognito in ANY country, let alone Thailand! That's one aspect of being tall that I've never envied. Having the name 'Smalling' at 6ft4 is ironic as well!
That's what Chris gets from me - 6ft4. He looks hugely tall; I'd drown in that jacket of his!
