Gary Cooper once leaned over ... and asked me my height. When I whispered '6 feet 2 1/2', he whispered back, 'never admit to 6-feet-3.' Actually, the world was not designed for tall men; we always feel a little uncomfortable, getting in and out of cars and all that.

Rob, is it possible that Aherne, Cooper, Sanders and even Randolph Scott were closeted 6ft3 men who rounded down to 6ft2 to avoid missing out on parts?
Seems to be a pattern here as opposed to now where legitimately tall guys are embellishing their stature!

Editor RobSome guys near 6ft 3 could have went with the 6ft 2 like Cooper for instance, and Aherne could be in that similar bracket.

i think aherne could be weak 6 foot 3 guy 1/8 under it while a guy like gary cooper could have been 1/8 over it

Definitely looks much taller than Basil Rathbone although this shot isn't great for comparison here with Greer Garson, Leslie Howard, Vivien Leigh, Aherne, Ronald Colman and Rathbone.

I feel like I haven't seen enough of Aherne's movies to definitively state he was as tall as Cooper or Stewart on screen, although in I Confess or Sylvia Scarlett (both of which I haven't seen in a long time) I didn't recall him looking that tall. In some stills, he does convince me as a 6'3" guy perhaps.
Definitely looks much taller than Basil Rathbone although this shot isn't great for comparison here with Greer Garson, Leslie Howard, Vivien Leigh, Aherne, Ronald Colman and Rathbone.

Editor Rob I've seen more of Stewart/Cooper, both could seem solid 6ft 3 men, Aherne I'm not as sure if he was as solid a 6ft 3.

Editor Rob it's a tricky one, his claim is certainly 6ft 2.5, but bringing up that Gary Cooper quote seems to suggest he might have been 6ft 3.
