I'm watching him on Netflix series Sex Education. I would never have guessed 6'0. He didn't give me the impression of being that tall. He was comfortably above average. I honestly would have said 5'11 range though, similar to someone like Eddie Redmayne.

I know these are all estimates but Rob what do you genuinely see him as solid 6'0? I think he is more likely to be a weak 6'0.

@ Christian 6ft5 3/8ths - Hi! I only just found your comment from 18th September last year. I'm off to check the height of a young actor whom I noticed at the end of a film starring Sam Neill from 1994 called 'In The Mouth of Madness'. He was Hayden Christensen, and had a minor scene as a paperboy, aged 12/13, and looking tiny, but I feel sure he grew up to be quite tall.

Back in a mo.....

I found his page and Hayden is now 6ft and an eighth of an inch, so not the sort of unfair and unsubstantiated 'stunted growth' look that a percentage of child stars are associated with when grown up.

Asa might be tall (ish to guys of your height!), but having said that, he was sitting on his bicycle. I'll check the film out again to make sure, and it won't be an arduous task either as it's a cracking film, as is 'The Boy In The Striped Pajamas', only in a different way. Asa Butterfield's film part disturbed me for days, and emphasised the fact that every little kid is as good as the next one.

@ Nik - Hi Nik! Asa played the son of David Thewlis in the tragic film 'The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas', which upset me for days afterwards. This was back in 2008. What a coincidence that Asa grew up to be 6ft! David Thewlis is 6ft2.5/3 so you could say it's rather an ironic coincidence. Asa played an 8-year-old in the Hollywood film, so it is spelt Pajamas as the Americans do, BTW, and he makes friends with a little Jewish boy. Try and check the film out, Nik. You won't be disappointed.

The girl standing on the right is my Friend’s Girlfriend who I’ve met in person and really didn’t look over 5’5” max!
Asa looks a lot shorter than 6ft, More like 5’10” range (not so sure if its a footwear disadvantage),
but it's surprising to see he’s actually shorter in person to be fair.
BTW This was in NOV 2018.

I think I’d be just a touch taller than Asa Butterfield’s height if he really is 6’ 0.3” like most people on here are guessing. He really is one of the VERY few child stars who is actually tall. He is also a great actor who should be on more films.

Isn't it amazing? That dear little fellow from 'The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas' has grown up to be a 6-footer! In it, he starred with the 6ft3 David Thewlis as his son. His Mum was the 5ft5.5 Vera Farmiga, and - ha ha ha! - the son of parents like that would probably grow to around 6ft, so that's an inadvertent coincidence, but one that I rather like!

@kar, when I turned 14, I was somewhere between 5'3 and 5'4. I'm 17 now and I'm standing at 5'11.5/ 6'0 tall. So yeah, you're very likely to end up being 6'0 at least. But it also depends on your growing period, cause you might be done growing in 2 years time.

@mike, I did not say exactly that, and, in fact, I do believe he could look the previous listing. I simply said that I haven't seen any recent photographs of the kid, and that we never change someone's height on their own personal claim minus corresponding evidence.

Pedro actually makes an argument for an exception worth considering, but at the end of the day, I am not for changing heights based on personal claims without corroborating evidence. One of the great things about this site is the very high threashold Rob usually requires for changes in either direction. I fear like this unilateral change without the photographic endangers the credibility of the site.

@MD I think what makes Asa's case different is that he only recently turned 18 and that his previous height claims were from when he was 16. Those are ages where a lot of boys are still growing. So I absolutely think that in a case like this we should give his claim the benefit of the doubt, unless there is evidence to the contrary. Of course this would be a different situation if he would have made that claim change at age 20.
But anyway, I think we will have the change to verify his height soon when his two summer movies come out.

@But, that's not how we've ever done it here. We make note of claims on people's pages, but we've explicitly not take them as gospel truth, particularly lacking any other evidence. This is highly unusual. Sure, it's possible that he grew, but do we even have very basic picture evidence? We don't do "trust but verify" here...until, now, it seems. The only time we do that is maybe to start them out, but never afterwards to adjust a height.

@Jax, that's what they say, but the growing between 18 and 21 y.o. is normally very small. About 1-2 cm maximum if you do grow at all. It's not a big change. I think that the major growing is between 14 and 17 for boys. So in Asa's case, I'd say he'd finish being in the 6'-6'1'' range. Or he may have stopped growing already (he's 17) and stays at 5'11'', who knows.
