Confirmation bias? I actually think tall men are more common than tall women. I don't often see women taller than 5'7 but I see lots of guys taller than 6'0. I live in Asian country. I also think short women are more common than short men. I see many 4'11 girls around and their friends are about the same but a 5'4 guy is usually the shortest in his group of friends. This is something I noticed.

Where I live though it's pretty consistent, because seeing a 6'0" girl is about as common as seeing a 6'5" guy maybe.

Christian-6'5 3/8 , if I were to guess I'd say it would be around 4 inches exactly just gauging with my eyes. I can't see 6ft1 man being as common as 5'8-9 women. That said a 5'5" man isn't as common as a 5'1" woman either. So there just seems to be a lot of variance. I see far more 5'10 girls than 6'3" guys for example. way, way, way more. Whenever I see a girl taller than me, she has to be around 5'10, whenever I see a guy I have to look up at e.g my eyes are at about his chin, it would mean he's about 6 inches taller. But the former is way, way, way more common.

I see guys around your height maybe a few times a day at most, sometimes never, I see dozens of girls as tall as me a day, not even joking

Do you feel like the average between men and women is less than 5" in your area? You said 5'6"-6'1" which means average 5'9.5" for men and 5'1"-5'11" which means average 5'6" for women. Only 3.5" difference between the genders is surprising to me, because where I live in Southern Cali, the average seems to be right at around 5"

I live in Texas, but not abnormal as in 6ft +, but a crap ton of girls in the 5ft7-11 range. Model height. But I guess I do also see a lot of very short girls too. It seems there is a lot more variance in female height than male. Most every guy is 5ft6-6ft1 in my experience. I consider any guy below than solidly short and every guy above it solidly tall. while female they can be anywhere from 5ft1-5ft11

@Slim: Christian is right. And it’s not just limited to guys under 6’0”. I know a few people 6’2.5-6’3 that claims 6’4 and a guy who’s 6’4” max at his lowest maybe 6’3 7/8 or a hair less claiming 6’5. The latter admits today it’s a shoe height but used to always say he was 6’4.5 or above just enough effect to say he’s 6’5” the other said he’s 6’3.75 and looks shorter than my 6’3 friend does at times or at best the same height. I try to limit my interaction with people like that honestly. It’s frustrating getting into a height conversation Like if someone asks them how tall or me. Once the “6’4” guy was asked after I said 6’4 and change and he said 6’3 3/4 and the guy said well either you’re taller or he’s shorter and luckily he was smart enough. I went with 6’4.5 since I was in a sneaker and he told him he wasn’t over maybe 6’3” tops. The guy of course argued with him till he was blue in the face but it’s why i don’t hang around him at all unless it’s running into him from time to time because I get tired of those types of arguments and I don’t stoop to his level and lie or exaggerate. I’ve even seen him tell other people they’re taller than they are. Now I feel bad because he’s a nice guy otherwise and very cool but very ignorant about his height and a few other things

@Christian 5'4 girls are pretty short. Isn't petite in women's for 5'1-5'4 range girls? So what does that tell you.

I see more girls my height or taller than guys who are 6'2"+. And when you're a 5'4 woman you're shorter than nearly every male and shorter than most females, so its more natural to feel short. For example a 5'8 guy is still taller than most women and isn't going to feel that short most of the time, even though he's shorter for his gender.

I don't get why many women who are 5'4" think that they're short, when in reality it's around average. I guess it's due to society in general inflating height and ingrained in their minds that taller is better. The same thing goes for a lot of 5'9" guys complaining that they're short.

5'4 in Toronto doesn't seem especially short for a woman tbh.

Thought it was right out the nose of average for Canadian women.
